One of my favorite things to do in the fall is to go apple picking. Apple picking is a fun activity for everyone. You get to learn a lot about apples, (if you’re like me) you get a bit of a workout in, and you get to go home with a treat too.

The question then becomes: what do I do with my apples now? It’s super easy to decide to make an apple pie or eat it with peanut butter, but there are so many other ways to enjoy the apples you just picked!

This is what my family and I made with our apples after we went picking last week.

Apple Chips

As someone who is a fan of snacking on chips, apple chips are the perfect way to fill that craving yet also can be healthy. They are so easy to make and one apple goes a long way. I like to make mine in an air fryer but if you don’t have one, they can also be made in the oven. I don’t really use a recipe, just add some granulated sugar, cinnamon and a little bit of salt and eyeball the amount of time in the air fryer (I think it took about 7 minutes). So simple, so tasty, and a must-have after apple picking.

Apple Butter

While we were apple picking, my older sister Emma said that she was going to make apple butter with the apples she picks. Not sure if most people know what apple butter is, but at that moment I certainly did not. For all I knew, it was a sweet butter with an apple flavor. After doing some research, I found that apple butter is most similar to applesauce but is cooked for longer allowing the sugar in the apples to caramelize. Emma also let me know that apple butter is great for spreading on toast, eating in oatmeal, or used in recipes that call for applesauce. She very loosely used this recipe from Delish.

Apple Salsa

When Lauren first mentioned she was going to make an apple salsa I assumed it would be similar to a mango salsa (which I’ve never tried before). She made her own recipe which was chopped tomato, pepper, red onion, cilantro, lime juice, honey, salt, pepper, and of course apple. I can easily say it was the BEST salsa I have ever had. The sweetness of the apple worked well with the sourness of the lime. The onion added great flavor and it all came together really well. Although apple salsa seems a little strange, you have to try it before you come to a conclusion!

Apple Crisp in a Mug

Making an apple crisp in a mug is the perfect way to make a quick, one-serving dessert with the apples you just picked. All you have to do is make the apple filling and crisp topping and microwave it for 90 seconds. Could not be any easier! Although we didn’t add anything else to the apple crisp, I’m sure it would be great with ice cream on top! This is the recipe we used!

Now, a week later and halfway through our bag of apples, I’ll be back in the kitchen making these recipes again!
