While stuck at home during the height of quarantine, I was sitting at home doing much less than my usual routine but found myself having to wash my hair at least every other day in order for it to look and feel clean. I knew that washing my hair this often was not good for my hair, so I decided to use this time when I was only seeing the people I lived with, to train my hair to only wash it twice a week. It wasn’t easy and took a long time, but in the end it was worth it! Now, about six months later, I can’t imagine not using this routine!
These visuals show my weekly hair routine. It looks like a lot but it really isn’t! I went from washing my hair about 4 times a week to only 2 times a week. This also means I only blow dry my hair from wet to dry twice a week. Also, on the days with the straightener, I only use it to touch it up, not completely straighten it. Because of this, I am using less heat on my hair in return!
Products I use:
- Tresemme Moisture Rich Shampoo and Conditioner
- I have used this shampoo and conditioners for years and like it! It’s inexpensive for its quality and really helps to keep my hair soft, shiny, and without frizz (if you’ve seen my natural hair then you know how important this is!) Although I really like it, it is always good to switch up the shampoos and conditioners you use, so I am open to trying other shampoos and conditioners to see if there are better out there.
- Olaplex No. 3 Hair Perfector Mask
- I really like how this mask makes my hair feel! The ends of my hair tend to get dry especially as the weather changes so this mask is really great to make it soft and smooth again! It is on the more expensive side so if you are looking for a hair mask that is less expensive, I recommend the Shea Moisture Sacha Inchi Oil Omega-3-6-9 Rescue + Repair Hair Masque.
- Microfiber Towel
- Microfiber towels are essential for drying your hair because it is more gentle and prevents frizz. Any microfiber towel will do the job! I got mine at HomeGoods but you can also get them at Target or on Amazon.
- Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer and Volumizer
- If you’ve been here for a while you know that this is my favorite hair dryer I’ve ever used! It gives me a salon-like blowout in less than 20 minutes! Also, because it is a dryer brush, it is a lot easier to style my hair as opposed to using a hair dryer and round brush!
- Chi Hair Straightener
- I bought this hair straightener 6+ years ago and it still works as if it were brand new! I like how it’s not too wide and heats up on the outside too so I can use it as a curler. Because I bought it so long ago, I don’t know if they sell the same version now, but I’m sure the new versions are just as great!
- Batiste Dry Shampoo
- I really like this dry shampoo because it is lightweight but makes my hair look as good as new. I spray it in my hair, leave it for about five minutes and then use my Revlon One-Step to massage it in. It is also a great price for its quality!
- Dry Bar Triple Sec 3-in-1 Finishing Spray
- I only started to use a spray like this just over a month ago and I can’t believe it took me this long! This finishing spray adds so much volume to my hair which is very necessary because my hair gets flat a couple days after washing it.
