Sitting down and thinking about how much has changed in a year is an indescribable thing to do at the moment. A year ago, I was interning at STYLE 360 New York Fashion Week, meeting tons of celebrities, and was in a room with more than 300 people (I know, wild right)! Little did I know that less than 6 months later, all of that would change.
This year, New York Fashion Week (NYFW) looks very different due to Covid-19. Instead of a week of events across the city, NYFW will be mainly virtual from September 13th – 16th. Some designers have even decided to opt out of this season’s events.
While NYFW will look very different this year, lets take a look back to my experience working for STYLE360 in 2019.
Besides setting up the brand activation booths, ensuring the models were prepared and ready for the shows, and making sure the designers had everything they needed, I could not stop fan-girling over the celebrities I was around (I was even freaking out about celebrities I don’t know much about). Some of the celebrities, including Serena Williams and Jessie James Decker, were also the designers which was really awesome too!
Thinking back on it now, I can’t get over the fact that I was watching Serena Williams play in the US Open final on my tv screen on September 7th, 2019 and then working for her and being featured on her Instagram story (HER INSTAGRAM STORY) on September 10th, 2019. Serena Williams actually does everything.
Jessie James Decker’s brand Kittenish had their show on the first day and I freaked out when asking if she and Eric needed anything. Not only was Eric a supportive husband, he brought along a crew of his friends including the one and only Shawn Booth from the Bachelorette (Kaitlyn Bristowe’s final pick for those who don’t watch).
As much as I loved meeting the Decker’s and Shawn Booth, nothing topped being in the presence of the Queen, Anna Wintour. I had heard rumors that Anna is friends with Serena Williams so I knew there was a possibility she would be there, but as I was working with the models in the dressing room, I did not expect to turn around and see Anna walk in and greet Serena. I was absolutely starstruck. In that moment, I knew the long hours were completely worth it and I could die happy.
Once again, I have managed to go off topic on another blog post but I think you truly got to know what I felt was the most amazing part of NYFW. Seeing all of these celebrities come together and support their designer friends was so incredible. Although, NYFW is going to be very different this year, make sure to check it out virtually from September 13th – 16th because I am sure it will be just as iconic as last year.
Looks like you had a lot of fun! 🙂
You need to be very happy that you had this chance, because everything is changing now and no one could ever imagine, that the world will change so much. Lucky you! 🙂
